Last Sunday was my first accident that landed me in the ER. We were at mommy and daddy's friend's place for a baptism reception for their new twins. We were hanging out in the backyard and it was really warm out. The twins were so cute, and I wanted to be just like them. One of them was drinking from a bottle, and I insisted that daddy get my sippy sup from the car. As daddy was leaving to go to the car, I chased after him, but I didn't get too far.
As I was running, I tripped and fell, and hit my mouth on a concrete step to the deck. It all seems like a blur now, but mommy and daddy came running to help me, and mommy whisked me away to the bathroom. I was dripping blood everywhere...on mommy, daddy, the house, and on myself. Daddy was looking closely at my mouth, and I heard him tell mommy that a tooth was missing. I think mommy was freaking out at that point..she ran to the steps to look for it. And came back holding a tooth, completely in one piece. The frantically put it in a cup of milk, since she said that is what she heard to do before.
Mommy said something about getting me to a hospital, so they rushed me, and my shocked self to Children's Memorial. Once we got in the car, I felt very sleepy...but mom wouldn't let me sleep. She kept shaking my legs to try and keep me awake. I think she sounded a bit panicked. I just wanted to sleep. When we finally made it to the ER I just wanted to play with the toys, and felt very awake at that point.

We didn't have to wait too long, and were finally seen. In our room they had Playmobil there...except there were built into window in the wall, and I couldn't actually play with them, and that made me cry. The doctor basically looked in my mouth, ears, eyes, nose, and said I lost a tooth....duh! They also told my mommy and daddy they do not re-insert baby teeth. I think mommy was very sad by that news. The doctor wanted me to stay for an little while to make sure I didn't have any more head damage. Luckily, we got out of there in about an hour. Then we all went to go for a walk, and to get me some ice cream....the best part. I was all ready to run around with other kids I saw at the park. Mommy and daddy seemed pretty nervous though for me to running around so soon though...but I didn't care...I ran around!
Before we went to bed, mommy and daddy explained to me that someone called the "Tooth Fairy" would fly into our house, and look at my tooth if I put it under my pillow while I was sleeping, and leave money! This really freaked me out. Who was this fairy...and what was she doing coming in our house while were sleeping? How would she get in? And how would she get back out?? I went along with their game, and put my tooth under my pillow, but made sure mommy knew it would still be there when I woke up...I didn't want to loose this prize.
The next morning I woke up and I couldn't see....my eyes were sealed shut. I cried that I couldn't see, and mommy and daddy had to pull my eye lids apart. It seems that somehow I ended up with conjunctivitis while also having my tooth knocked out. After I could see, mommy told me to look under my pillow...and sure enough, the sneaky Tooth Fairy
did come in, and left me $20!! Mommy told me the Tooth Fairy would usually not leave me so much, but that she felt particularly generous since I was so young to loose a tooth.
Mommy got up very early to call the pediatric dentist. They had me come in right away. This was a different dentist that I had before, and she was even nicer and more fun than the first one. The office looked really fun, and I just wanted to play..but I decided to cooperate and sit nicely in the chair and have pictures taken of my teeth. The dentist said I had no damage to my gums, bone, or permanent teeth, and that I was in good shape. She did want me to take medicine though, just in case I got an infection from all of the dirt that was in my mouth from the fall- ick! Mommy asked her about a prosthetic tooth, since I think mommy thinks 4 years is a long time to go for a girl without a front tooth. The dentist said I would have to wait 6 weeks for my wound to heal, and then we can go ahead with a children's bridge...which hooks to my other teeth, and should be painless.
The dentist also took my picture with her so I could put it on the fridge at home, and gave me a treasure chest to put my tooth in! She also told me I would be announced in the Kenosha paper, as a member of the No Cavities Club!
After the dentist, mommy took me to the toy store, so I could use the money from the tooth fairy...I bought a Playmobil dinosaur set!! I was so proud of the new space in my mouth that I showed the guy working at the store.
Mommy then decided 2 visits to see a doctor in the last 12 hours wasn't enough, and took me to the walk-in clinic since I told her my ear hurt. We had to wait a long time, even though there were only 2 other people waiting. Good thing I had my dinosaurs to play with. The doctorwas very nice, and told my mommy I had an ear infection, and conjunctivitis.
We went to the store to pick up medicine, and they let me test it at the store to make sure I liked it. It seemed OK, but later that night when mommy tried to give it to me again, it made me want to throw up, and I cried because I didn't want to take it. The next morning mommy had to call the doctor to get a new medicine called in, and now I have one that tastes so yummy, I look forward to taking it, and have to beg mommy for it.
I am feeling much better now, and really love to show everyone my missing tooth. I think everyone seems very impressed with me!!
Mommy and daddy tell me how well I did and how proud they of me, and it makes very happy. They were also very happy that I stayed dry during the entire ordeal..no accidents, and no diapers.
Poor mommy, I think she had a really rough time through all of this, she looked very worried for me, but I kept telling her I was OK, not to worry. I think she is better now too.
I wonder when the Tooth Fairy will come back. Mommy says not for a few years...do I really have to wait that long??
